FastPass Flex for domain users

WEB based password manager and self-service

Basic overview

Do you think  self-service passwords? In today’s environment users expect fast self-service for any issues they might have with IT. As the most frequent issue is password trouble, then IT self-service must include a password self-service functionality. This will resolve users’ issues faster than calling a service-desk. If the problem is outside the office hours of the service desk then it can even be critically.

Think FastPass Flex! FastPass Flex for Active directory password management lets you start at a very low cost for an advanced and automatic platform for Windows Active Directory passwords. You can later add functionality as your requirements increase. The full functionality will satisfy small and mid-size organizations, and the starter level can be financially justified by even small organizations.

FastPass Flex basic functions is based on a self-service WEB-portal where users can unlock their Active Directory account or reset their forgotten password. Authentication can be challenge questions or SMS-Pin codes. Even 2-factor authentication can be dynamic! Access to the portal is from any device with a standard browser – smartphones included. Users get assistance to make the new password following password policy. The user can select end-user language from more than 20 different languages. For more details on functionality see FastPass password Manager facts.

Optional facilities

Some organizations can improve the password self-service business case and user satisfaction by adding more advanced functionality to FastPass Flex. The extra functionality only adds small extra amounts to the cost of Flex.

  • With FastPass PC-client users can get access to the portal from a locked Domain PC. This is the most usual situation for end-users experiencing a password problem. No need to go to another device to access the WEB-portal!
  • Enrollment is key to user adoption rates. With FastPass PC-client users are forced to enroll!
  • Non-domain users can be invited to enroll by FastPass automatic e-mail enrollment service.
  • HelpDesk client is available for the service desk support for those users who call for support anyway. It speeds up the service and increase security.
  • For users with corporate PC’s who access the system from external net (from home or travel) the Remote PC-client enables FastPass to reset the PC-cache password. This can’t be done by the service desk with traditional tools and is extraordinary valuable.
  • Organizations with multiple AD’s can handle this complexity in the extended version

Synchronization of corporate passwords from AD

Flex synchronization of corporate passwords

When users only have one password to remember you will see a sharp decline in number of forgotten passwords compared to the situation with many different passwords with different password policies. FastPass Flex can be extended with password synchronization. Many customers primarily use FastPass Flex for password synchronization!

Flex synchronization of corporate passwords

Password synchronization has some significant implementation advantages:

  • It can be done fast
  • Basically, users don’t need to be involved
  • It is robust compared to SSO

Solutions for password synchronization are in general cheaper than Single Sign On (SSO) solutions, and are more robust to changes in the software configuration of the target systems.

Complexity in a password synchronization project is small as you don’t need to change any user process. Just inform them, that they now have the same password for all systems – they just change password when Windows ask them to!

FastPass password synchronization is based on an AD interceptor catching all changes to passwords in AD. This creates a transaction to FastPass password synchronization module. FastPass then has a user-map where the user’s user-ids are linked together for the synchronization transaction. FastPass password synchronization reacts very fast, so in general users’ passwords are changed in the target systems even before the user logs in to the alternate systems.
