Self-Service Password Management for SAP

As the need for users to remember more and more passwords and password complexity increases due to tougher security standards, an increasing number of password-related calls to Service Desks have become a costly headache.
Most users have forgotten a password and have experienced the problems that this causes. Having different Passwords for different systems increases the risk of forgetting the right password. In the typical SAP environment, the user has Passwords for Microsoft Active Directory (AD) and for some SAP applications. For most users it will be an important relief, if he or she had to remember only one Password. When the Password is changed, then the new Password automatically is synchronized to all SAP systems. FastPass Password Manager can do this through the normal company user Self-service portal or through the FastPass Self-service Portal. See solution overviewl.

Single Password through SAP Password Synchronization
The number of systems, and therefore accounts and passwords, which information workers need to access, are increasing year by year. Much effort is devoted to combat this problem, but the issue of multiple passwords per user is increasing. The most cost-effective solution is to standardize passwords through Password Synchronization. FastPass delivers a strong, flexible approach with a wide range of connectors for different systems and applications. Synchronization is transparent, triggered by a normal password change and controlled by the user accessing FastPass Password Manager. The user then only has to remember one password, and all are changed simultaneously.
Different Passwords for SAP and Active Directory
In some organizations it is required that passwords are different for different systems. This is caused by security concerns or because password policies differ much between different systems and applications. In that case the AD password must not synchronize to SAP. The FastPass admin decides, based on the company policy, if the users are allowed to synchronize passwords between AD and SAP or password resets are individual on AD and for SAP systems. This unique FastPass feature will effectively balance the security demands with the demand for high availability to systems and cost cutting initiatives.

SAP password synchronization - System Management

If the user has the same User-id across all SAP and AD systems, then FastPass automatically can change the password without any Administrator interference.
If FastPass synchronizes password between different user-ids, then a User-id table is maintained.
For example John Doe might have the user-id JohnD at the AD and JoD at SAP. The administrator maintains this link via the FastPass Administration Console. Likewise the administrator can select SAP instances where synchronization is not wanted for specific users.

When selective synchronization is selected by the administrator, then the user -within the limits set by the administrator - selects what passwords to reset.

The basic principle of FastPass SAP Password reset is:
When Password is changed at the AD, then FastPass synchronizes the new password to all SAP systems relevant for that user. In this way the user only has to remember one password, which is changed according to the AD policies.
For the user this is a relief, as one of the main reasons for forgetting passwords, is the confusion between many passwords to remember. The user achieves Simple Sign-on, as he only has to remember one password. When he changes his password at the Active Directory, then FastPass immediately synchronize the password with all other password instances where the user resides!
The alternative principle of SAP Password reset is:
If the Password administrator needs to synchronize password between different user-ids, then a User-id table is maintained.
For example John Doe might have the user-id JohnD at the AD and JoD at SAP. The administrator maintains this link via the FastPass Administration Console. Likewise the administrator can select SAP instances where synchronization is not wanted for specific users.

At the SAP system FastPass connects to SAP via a FastPass Connector and an ABAP component
