Different Passwords for AS400 / iSeries and Active Directory

In some organizations it is required that passwords are different for different systems. This is caused by security concerns or because password policies differ much between different systems and applications. In that case the AD password must not synchronize to AS400 / iSeries. The FastPass admin decides, based on the company policy, if the users are allowed to synchronize passwords between AD and AS400 / iSeries or password resets are individual on AD and for AS400 / iSeries systems. This unique FastPass feature will effectively balance the security demands with the demand for high availability to systems and cost cutting initiatives.

 

AS400 / iSeries password synchronization - System Management

 If the user has the same User-id across all AS400 / iSeries and AD systems, then FastPass automatically can change the password without any Administrator interference.

If FastPass synchronizes password between different user-ids, then a User-id table is maintained.

For example John Doe might have the user-id JohnD at the AD and JoD at AS400 / iSeries.  The administrator maintains this link via the FastPass Administration Console. Likewise the administrator can select AS400 / iSeries instances where synchronization is not wanted for specific users.

 

When selective synchronization is selected by the administrator, then the user -within the limits set by the administrator - selects what passwords to reset.
