Service Desk process improvements
Allowing users to handle password issues on their own, relieve the Service Desk of calls that are easily automated. Not only are service requests for password reset the number one reason to call the Service Desk, it also tends to be calls that are most frequent after hollidays and week-ends. The cost per password reset by using FastPass is significantly lower than the cost of any manual processes.
User Self-service Portals
Many companies are now implementing User Self-service portals, to increase end-user service and to decrease IT related costs. Many different facilities are available at the User Self-service portals; but you can’t help yourself if you have forgotten your password!! Hence FastPass should be a mandatory function at the User Self-service Portals!
Compliance and Security
Companies are met with strict requirements regarding IT security. FastPass will help IT Managers and Governance Risk Managers face some of the difficult challenges of Sarbanes Oxley Section 404 compliance. Requirements which in many areas are similar to those from other governance institutions like HIPAA, ISO and European Union.
Identity and Access Management
Management of all user rights in a well-defined process is for many large companies the ultimate goal for user management, often named as: Identity and Access Management. There are distinct and different steps in IdM, and one step is Password Management. User self-service of Passwords is probably the single process in IdM with the largest and fastest pay-back. FastPass will fulfill this role with most IdM suites.
Password Synchronization (alternative to Single Sign-on )
When users have to log-in to different systems they have to remember many different passwords. If some systems only are used infrequently, the user tends to forget passwords. Hence many organizations want to force the systems to accept one –and only one- password across the different applications. One well-known option is Single Sign-on. As an alternative Password Synchronization offers the same relief to users; but is much simpler to implement. Some companies need a more delicate control, where for example two different passwords are accepted: one for AD and another for SAP instances. FastPass is capable of handling this situation as well offering different password on each system.
Infrastructure Optimization
Many organizations have invested lots of time and effort in building an enterprise infrastructure to be able to support the demand from business applications. These infrastructure investments has a potential to deliver much more value to the organization by further utilizing this for other purposes - for instance Self-service password reset.
Microsoft has introduced the Infrastructure Optimization program that is a set of best practice recommendations that will help companies reduce operational cost and align IT and business to take advantage of the capabilities in the IT infrastructure.
Managed Service Provider ( Hosting Partner) customer service
For Managed Service Providers the Service Desk is part of production. Hence we see a strong focus on optimization through automation and process improvements. In addition offering new and improved services to customers gives a competitive edge. FastPass is developed for multi-organization, multi-customer environments with a cost model that fits well into the Software-as-a-Service (SaaS ) business model.
